PostgreSQL extensions

Extensions apply to PostgreSQL databases. Use the database’s extension catalogue to distinguish available, installed and allowed extensions; an allowed name does not guarantee every server has the package installed.

An owner/admin can enable or disable a named extension on an active database. The name belongs in the URL and the request has no body. Use the name returned by the catalogue rather than assuming an extension from another PostgreSQL provider is supported.

Read both HTTP status and success. An operation can fail because the extension is unavailable, unsupported, in use or blocked by database state. Removing an extension can affect dependent database objects; verify dependencies first. An inactive database’s list can return HTTP 200 with an empty list and explanatory message.

pg_stat_statements is needed for aggregate query analytics, but installation alone may not establish all server prerequisites. If analytics remains unavailable, use the diagnostic guidance rather than interpreting empty statistics as no traffic.
